To help fund a Mid-Willamette Valley cancer survivorship program for ALL cancers.
In 2013, I was approaching my 5 year cancer survivorship mark and, with some dedicated friends and sponsors, decided to raise money to start a survivorship program for the Mid-Willamette Valley area (Corvallis and surrounding areas). There was no survivorship program for ALL cancers; it was an underserved opportunity for the region and a way I could positively impact the health of area cancer survivors. My fundraising effort is called “Give Us 5” and is a 5K fun run/walk in honor of my five year “Cancerversary.”
Read the GiveUs5 Impact Report prepared by Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, September 2015. In addition, we reach out to help cancer patients, including getting a mom with cancer a two-way intercom system, home massages, touch pads, and help fund vacations and medical bills.
My personal mission
To give other survivors hope and encouragement during their most challenging time of their life, during treatment and after. Our hair grows back, but we have been through so much – really it is unimaginable – we need light at the end of the tunnel – a survivorship program.
“Give Us 5” was born and grows stronger each year.
